Change a price

Click any price and type the new number. The rest of this page covers the menus beside a price, for when you need more than that.

The total always adds up

There’s no box for typing a grand total. Every total is worked out from the lines above it, so the number your client sees is always the sum of what you showed them. To round the price or take something off, add a discount or fee line (see below).

How a group is priced

Point at a group’s price and Priced: appears next to it. Click it to choose how the group is priced.

Adds up the lines adds up the lines in the group. Change a line and the group total follows. “Adds up” next to the number means it was worked out, not typed.
One price is one number for the whole group. The lines still print, to show what’s included, but their prices don’t add up to anything.
Qty × rate prices by the unit, like 1,200 SF at $8.50. Your client sees the math.
Price to come is what your client reads in place of a price. It’s left out of the total, and the check before sending reminds you about it.

How a line is priced

Each line has its own menu, the same way.

The How this is priced menu on a line: One price, Qty × rate, Included, Price to come, N/A, By owner, Not included

One price: you type the number.
Qty × rate: a quantity, a unit and a rate.
Included: part of the job at no extra charge. It prints the word “Included”.
Price to come: no price yet, and your client reads those words.
N/A, By owner and Not included: the line stays where it is and prints that word instead of a price. It isn’t counted in the total, and the check doesn’t ask about it.

Work, allowances and options

Next to a group’s price is This is:. It says what kind of group it is.

The What this group is menu: Work, Allowance, Option

Work is part of the job and counts in the price.
Allowance is a budget for things your client picks later, like tile or fixtures. It counts in the price and is labelled as an allowance, so nobody mistakes it for a fixed price.
Option is offered separately. It shows its price but only adds to the total if your client takes it.

Add a line, a group, or a discount

Point at a line and click ＋ in the left margin to add a line below it. The ⋯ next to it can duplicate, move or delete the line, or move it into another group.

To add a whole group or a discount, click ＋ Add… at the top of the page and choose Priced group or Discount or fee line. A discount or fee line takes off or adds to the total, and your client can see why.

Where the money shows up

The Your investment page shows the total and how it breaks down. It can also show a chart of where the money goes, and a box listing anything carried separately from the price. See What’s in a proposal.
